Georgia’s body of work, ‘Nostalgia Suburbia Australiana’ explores just that, motifs and scenes common to our memories of growing up in Australian suburbia. Georgia thus plays on the idea of collective memory, a concept that has carried over to her work from her studies in psychology and brain sciences. As a society, we will remember and resonate with the scenes illustrated even if they are partly imagined or constructed from the artist’s personal memory bank. This body of work is Georgia’s first in exploring miniature painting and gives meaning and value to previously discarded items, like, wrappers, and shells. Australian advertising has been a long-time inspiration for Georgia but was yet to translate into her work, however, we can undeniably see its presence in ‘Nostalgia Suburbia Australiana.’
